Our Response to COVID-19
With the spread of Covid-19 virus we are taking the following steps to protect our neighbors, staff, and volunteers. (Updated: March 19, 2020)
Food for Families: Our Thursday and Saturday distributions have changed to curbside pick-up of pre-packaged boxes of food.
Food for Thought: We will continue providing bags to the city school system for distribution, and utilize other means of getting bags each Friday to school children in need of weekend food.
Park View Cafe: The Wednesday evening meals have been suspended, as have the distribution of clothing. We will not be accepting clothing donations until further notice.
Life Skills Institute: Classes remain suspended through March 27th. If the city schools extend their closing further, so will we.
How you can help
Help is needed now in our Food for Families and Food for Thought feeding programs, particularly individually wrapped snack items such as granola bars, peanut butter crackers, cookies, and goldfish.
Monetary donations are needed. We must purchase cleaning products, bags and boxes, and additional fuel to make deliveries
To protect our staff and volunteers, we will be cleaning commonly used surfaces more often, wiping down shopping carts and equipment, encouraging everyone to closely monitor their health, and asking them to stay home if they, or someone in their household, are sick.
We will encourage everyone to follow the CDC’s suggested hygiene practices to reduce the spread of the virus, and urge them to also practice safe food handling at home.
Unfortunately, no one can predict how long this situation will continue. We must be prudent, but not paranoid, so we will actively monitor events and promptly announce any changes to our policy. We appreciate your continued support.
